Aliens find that Humans have strange preconceived notions about hunger on Earth. Here are seven myths perpetrated widely on Earth, along with the rational truth Aliens find. The bottom line is that hunger is a curable ill.

Myth 1: THERE ISN’T ENOUGH FOOD TO FEED EVERY HUMAN.

Fact: There is plenty of food.  Earth’s production of grain is two billion tons, enough to supply every man, woman and child with two pounds a day.  This is enough to provide every Human with 3000 calories a day, not including world production of fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish and meat.  The problem is many Humans cannot afford food because it is stolen and hoarded by a wealthy few for higher profit.  Hunger and malnutrition are caused by inaccessibility and greed, not production.

Myth 2: OVERPOPULATION CAUSES HUNGER.

Fact: Contrary to propaganda, overpopulation is not the cause of hunger.  It is the other way around, hunger causes overpopulation.  The more children a poor family has, the more to work to add to the family’s small income and, later, to care for the parents in their old age.  High birth rates are caused by inadequate family income, malnutrition, and lack of education, health care and old-age security.  It’s been proven that birth rates fall dramatically when the most critical social problems are reduced.

Myth 3: HUNGER IS CAUSED BY NATURAL DISASTERS.

Fact: Hardly any hunger is the result of natural disasters, even though disasters are the most publicized.  Humans would still have food when natural disasters occur if they had enough food to store nearby.  Almost all famines are Human-made with wars and persecutions causing mass migration and starvation of refugees.  In reality, most hunger is chronic malnutrition because many Humans lack access to food or land to grow their own food.  There is plenty of tillable land but it is owned and hoarded by a wealthy few.

Myth 4: THE HUNGRY ARE LAZY OR INCOMPETENT.

Fact: Poor Humans work for long hours at low wages.  In order to survive, they must be very hard working, innovative, and resourceful.  It has been proven that by giving poor Humans access to small loans, they are able to successfully start small businesses and work their own way out of poverty.

Myth 5: HUNGER IS MOSTLY IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

Fact: Every day millions of American children go hungry.

Myth 5: WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF AMERICA FIRST.

Fact: That would be a much-needed beginning, but we don’t have to choose between helping hungry Humans in the U.S. and hungry Humans in other countries.  The current level of mass hunger is a blight upon Humanity, causing immense turmoil and unnecessary suffering.  Both domestic and world hunger must be tackled simultaneously to build true security and prosperity.  A portion of the annual armament spending of $336 billion is enough to permanently solve the problem.  The resources are plentiful, if Humans decide to put people first.  In an interdependent world, hunger and turmoil cost each of us dearly.

Myth 6: PATRIOTS NEED TO SUPPORT FAMILY AND COUNTRY

Fact: Politicians sold out citizens, patriots and the military.  Big Business has grown far more powerful and influential than even the notorious robberbaron and imperialist eras.  Three families own more than the 48 poorest countries.  At this point, just about 1 out of 60,000 Humans soak up 95% of the resources and land  They produce 95% of the pollution and are the source of hunger problems.  While the U.S. Constitution was designed to balance power, America has been sucked into a trap by a couple hundred giant corporations who stuffed many millions of dollars into campaign chests and lobbying each year.  (They earned this money through the labor of millions of Humans.)  Big Business invested to push through free trade agreements (legal loopholing that they use to lower wages, seize resources from locals, extract government concessions and grants, skirt child labor and pollution laws, avoid taxes or liabilities, and intimidate and legally silence opposition).

Myth 7: INDIVIDUALS CANNOT AFFECT THE WORLD HUNGER SITUATION.

Fact: Individual citizens collectively hold public power if they will only act.  Recent history proves that only individuals can influence public policy in key areas such as women’s suffrage, Civil Rights, ending the Vietnam War, enacting environmental protections, limiting child labor, and pulling down the Iron Curtain.  Not only do individuals have the power to influence government, but the moral obligation to exercise that power.  Each Human has the responsibility to act because individuals are the only ones who can help create these changes.
